Let Your
VOICE Be HEARD!
The LOFT is hosting a letter-writing campaign to make our state
legislators aware of where we stand on marriage equality for same-sex
couples. We will provide stationery, envelopes, stamps, sample letters
and your legislators’ addresses. Pizza will be provided—so you won’t
have to write letters on an empty stomach!
So join us for this fun-filled advocacy opportunity!
Wednesday, November 15 at 7 p.m.
Hope to see you there!

Bi’s The
Way
Have you ever felt like you’re one of the unpopular cousins at the
yearly family turkey roast, only it wasn’t Thanksgiving? Even worse
you’re out, among friends, feeling it’s safe and OK to be yourself,
until someone makes a negative, exclusionary comment about bisexuals.
If you’re interested in learning more about this behavior, join us
Thursday, November 16, at 7:30 p.m., to hear Julia Tomassilli discuss
preliminary results from her recently completed survey of lesbian and
gay attitudes towards bisexuals. Julia’s survey is a major part of the
doctoral work she is currently completing at the City University of New
York.
Gay-Straight Alliance Students
and Advisors Meet
GLSEN Hudson Valley hosted a dozen advisors at an after-school meeting
at Memorial United Methodist Church. They discussed issues facing GSAs
and heard how GLSEN can help.
High School students active in their GSAs held their own meeting at the
YWCA to network and develop plans for their school organizations. The
students also wrote letters to the principals of their middle schools
describing their experiences and urging the administrators to organize
activities around “No Name-Calling Week” (January 16-22, 2007). For
information about this national anti-bullying campaign, visit
www.NoNameCallingWeek.org. The GSA Summit 2006 was co-sponsored by GLSEN
Hudson Valley and WJCS Center Lane.
GLSEN Hudson Valley invites CNews readers to help educate school
districts about LGBT issues. Interested? Email

LOFT Community Art Show
The walls and rooms of The LOFT have been transformed into four
beautiful gallery spaces showcasing the work of over twenty local LGBT
artists. This year the show boasts plenty of photography, paintings,
ceramics, stained glass, mixed media, jewelry and even costumes. The
show began its run with a preview on National Coming Out Day, October
11th, and will be up until November 15th. Come out and celebrate the art
of our community, and with the holidays rapidly approaching remember
artwork makes wonderful gifts! A portion of all art sales supports The
LOFT and its programs. |
