"Real Boy" Part of Community Matters Film Series

Transforming a Child and a Mother

As 19 year old Bennett Wallace journey through early sobriety, late adolescence, and the evolution of his gender identity while his mother makes her own transformation to accepting her trans son. Along the way, both mother and son find support in their communities reminding us that families are not only given but chosen.

A part of the Westchester Community Foundation Community Matters: Local Issues, Discussion, Action Film Series, the Jacob Burns Film Center will be featuring Real Boy and be followed by a post-film discussion. The post-film discussion will be given with Jamie Bruesehoff, a writer, speaker, and advocate whose first born child transitioned at eight and became a national symbol for the transgender community, as well as The LOFT's own Shepard Verbas, program manager and prominent spokesperson for trans rights who appeared in National Geographic's January 2017 Gender Revolution issue.
