Shepard Verbas joined The LOFT's team in November 2015, and currently serves as the center's Assistant Director of Programs and Services, where they oversee many of the center's programing and events.
Shepard is the lead manager for The LOFT's outreach program for LGBT seniors, Silver Connections; LGBT intimate partner violence advocacy program, Rebuilding Rainbows; and The LOFT's Helpline program which assists community members through support and referrals to LGBT-affirming services. Additionally, Shepard facilitates The LOFT's Young Adult Transgender Peer Support Group, for transgender, gender non-conforming, and non-binary (TGNCNB) community members between the ages of 18-29; and The Rainbow Clubhouse, a program where parents/guardians of gender expansive children (up to age 12) are able to gather for support, while their gender expansive children and siblings gather for positive social programming. Shepard also values the impact education makes in the greater community, and often facilitates professional trainings, discussions, and interviews on pressing topics in the LGBT community.
Additionally, Shepard works with LGBT youth through CANDLE Rockland's Trans Youth Group, a program for TGNCNB youth between the ages of 12-18; and previously through WJCS's Center Lane's TransParentcy program, a program for TGNCNB youth between the ages of 13-21, and their parents/guardians. Shepard has an unrelenting passion for LGBT advocacy, and lifting up the voices and experiences of TGNCNB communities.
