The White Plains History Roundtable is an educational, participatory, and social event where attendees hear a presentation on a historical topic, examine materials from the White Plains Collection, and engage in discussion with each other. Because June is LGBT Pride Month, June's Roundtable will focus on The LOFT and LGBT History in Westchester.

Come learn about the people and organizations that worked to secure rights and a safe place in the county for the LGBT community. We will specifically focus on The LOFT LGBT Community Center which was founded in White Plains in the 1980s. In addition to archival material from the White Plains Collection, we will have clips from Forward & Out, the LGBT affairs public access show, and individuals who are long-time LOFT members.

From the Library of Congress: “LGBT Pride Month is currently celebrated each year in the month of June to honor the 1969 Stonewall riots in Manhattan. The purpose of the commemorative month is to recognize the impact that lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender individuals have had on history locally, nationally, and internationally.”
