Selected Artist Statements

We invited all artists exploring LGBTQ+ themes to submit recent work for a national juried show to be held at Upstream Gallery from June 23rd to July 17th 2022.

Seeking current, creative, personal explorations of LGBTQ+ life, issues, history and culture, our aim was to draw attention to and celebrate the less often heard voices and thoughts of this important part of our artistic community. Written statements or quotes by many of the 32 artists will be included, adding greater depth and richness to the exhibit.

A sampling of artwork and the statements that go with them is attached.

All works for the exhibit were selected by the following jurors:

V.L. Cox is a professional artist of 30 years whose work focuses actively on projects that involve Human Rights and Equality. In 2020, Cox was one of twenty artists in the nation to be featured in "Ministry of Truth: 1984/2020,” a New York City billboard project which made the New York Times “Most Important Moments in Art in 2020” list. Cox’s newest exhibition 'Watchfires' is currently on exhibit at the Rosa Parks Museum in Montgomery, Alabama.

Glenn Fischer is a New York based contemporary artist who works with discarded and outdated print materials including textbooks, album covers and magazines to construct geometric inspired collages. Fischer’s work has been featured in numerous exhibitions including the AIM biennial at The Bronx Museum of Art, Sara Nightingale Gallery, Denise Bibro Fine Art, Elisa Contemporary Art, Pentimenti Gallery and ArtsWestchester. He received a BA in Art from Armstrong Atlantic State University and an MA from New York University. Fischer’s work was also showcased in the anthology, "Cutting Edges: Contemporary Collage” by the Berlin publisher, Gestalten.

Mitchell Visoky is a New York based multidisciplinary visual artist working with a variety of media and processes to create abstract and representational images. His award-winning images have been exhibited at regional solo and group venues.
