About TDOR: Transgender Day of Remembrance (TDOR) is observed annually on November 20th to memorialize those who have been murdered as a result of anti-transgender violence and to draw attention to the continued violence endured by the transgender community.

TDOR's Founding (excerpted from glaad.org/tdor)

Transgender Day of Remembrance (TDOR) was started in 1999 by transgender advocate Gwendolyn Ann Smith as a vigil to honor the memory of Rita Hester, a transgender woman who was killed in 1998. The vigil commemorated all the transgender people lost to violence since Rita Hester's death, and began an important tradition that has become the annual Transgender Day of Remembrance.

"Transgender Day of Remembrance seeks to highlight the losses we face due to anti-transgender bigotry and violence. I am no stranger to the need to fight for our rights, and the right to simply exist is first and foremost. With so many seeking to erase transgender people -- sometimes in the most brutal ways possible -- it is vitally important that those we lose are remembered, and that we continue to fight for justice."
- Transgender Day of Remembrance founder Gwendolyn Ann Smith

Join the Hudson Valley LGBTQ+ Community Center for an instagram/Facebook live-streamed candle lighting memorial on November 20th to honor the lost Trans/GNC/Non-binary lives of 2020. We will be writing and memorializing each name as we stream, and encourage you to contribute names of those members of the Trans/GNC/Non-binary community you’ve lost or would like to see honored in our work.

Join us in celebrating the lives and mourning the losses of our Trans/GNC/Non-binary siblings.

Calling all Performers! We are hosting a virtual Open Mic for TDOR, to honor and remember the lives of the TGNCNB+ Community that have been lost this year.
We are looking for those willing to perform pieces at our open mic, to give our community a place to speak their mind and gain closure.

2020 has been the deadliest year for transgender folx to date, especially the Black trans community. We want to take the time to care for and celebrate each one of these lost lives, and will also be doing a candle lighting livestream on Instagram earlier in the day on the 20th.

Please contact [email protected] with your name, pronouns, and a little about your planned performance!
