Writing Letters for Gender-Related Care


Workshop Description: This workshop will review current WPATH Standards of Care and outline what needs to be included in letters for gender-related medical care (e.g., hormone therapy, surgeries). Issues of assessment and readiness, as well as our gatekeeper role will also be discussed.


Bio: For the past 25 years Elijah C. Nealy, Ph.D, M.Div., LCSW has worked extensively with LGBT adolescents and adults in both pastoral and social service capacities. An out transgender man, Dr. Nealy brings particular clinical, programmatic, and advocacy experience in work with trans and gender diverse children, adolescents, and adults, and their families. Currently Assistant Professor of Social Work at the University of Saint Joseph (CT), Elijah is also ordained with Metropolitan Community Churches. Author of Trans Kids and Teens: Pride, Joy, and Families in Transition [Norton, 2019] and numerous book chapters and journal articles, Dr. Nealy is widely regarded as a dynamic speaker and provides trainings and consultation around work within LGBTQ+ communities.
