Non Specific LGBTQ+ Federal Legislation 2020

2020 Non-LGBTQ+ Specific Federal Legislation

The Family And Medical Insurance Leave (FAMILY) Act (H.R. 1185/S. 463)

"Just 19 percent of the workforce has paid family leave through their employers, and just 40 percent has personal medical leave through an employer-provided short-term disability program. The Family And Medical Insurance Leave (FAMILY) Act would address America’s paid family and medical leave crisis and benefit working people, their families, businesses and our nation’s economy."

End Racial and Religious Profiling Act H.R. 4339, S. 2355

"The End Racial and Religious Profiling Act would prohibit federal, state, and local law enforcement from targeting a person based on actual or perceived race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, gender, gender identity, or sexual orientation without trustworthy information that is relevant to linking a person to a crime. The bill would require law enforcement to maintain adequate policies and procedures designed to eliminate profiling, including increased data collection in order to accurately assess the extent of the problem. The bill would also require training for law enforcement officials on issues of profiling and mandate the creation of procedures for receiving, investigating, and responding to complaints of alleged profiling."

NO HATE Act H.R. 3545, S. 2043

"Named after two hate crime victims whose murders were prosecuted as hate crimes but not reported in hate crime statistics, the Khalid Jabara and Heather Heyer National Opposition to Hate, Assault, and Threats to Equality (NO HATE) Act (S.2043 | H.R.3545) would promote more accurate hate crime data collection and assist hate crime victims and their communities. Through the implementation of an innovative reporting framework, the Act would also promote an improved response to hate crime in the United States — not only from the federal government, but from state and local law enforcement agencies as well."

NO BAN Act H.R. 2214

"The No Ban Act would rescind each iteration of the Muslim ban. It would immediately rescind a ban targeting asylum-seekers arriving at the border. It would change immigration law to prohibit discrimination based on religion. The bill would broaden the Immigration and Nationality Act’s (INA’s) nondiscrimination clause to specifically prohibit religion-based discrimination against any immigrant or nonimmigrant visa applicant. It would limit executive authority to prevent any president from issuing future bans like the Muslim ban."
