What's on the menu?

Together, we'll explore the cultural significance of Chai (spiced tea) and Chaat (savory snacks)—two staples of hospitality and connection in South Asian and diaspora communities worldwide.

Bonus: Try out the simple chai recipe below so we can snack together during the chat!

Fun Fact: Saying "chai tea" is redundant! "Chai" means "tea" in Hindi, Urdu, and many other languages, so you're really saying "tea tea."

Chai Recipe:

Here's how to make a comforting cup of chai at home:

  • Ingredients:
  • 2 cups water
  • 2 cups whole milk (or dairy alternative)
  • 2 tsp black tea leaves or 3 tea bags
  • 2-3 cardamom pods, lightly crushed
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 2-3 cloves (optional)
  • 1 tsp grated ginger
  • Sugar to taste
  • Instructions:
  1. Toast spices until fragrant. Add water and simmer with cardamom, cinnamon, cloves, and ginger.
  2. Add tea and simmer for 2-3 minutes.
  3. Stir in milk and reduce heat. Simmer for 2-3 more minutes.
  4. Sweeten to taste, strain, and serve!

Pro tip: Prefer iced chai? Let it cool, then pour over ice!

Why Chai & Chaat Matter:

Chai represents warmth, hospitality, and tradition, often shared in homes and street-side stalls. Chaat is the perfect embodiment of vibrant street food culture, blending sweet, spicy, and tangy flavors. Together, they symbolize the essence of community and the rich heritage of South Asia and beyond.
