But it was her electrifying turn as 'Mimi Marquez' in "Rent" that really put her on the map, earning her nominations for top awards like The Dora Mavor Moore and the Laurence Olivier Award.  Cummings originated the role of Mimi Marquez in the Toronto and London West End productions of the groundbreaking musical Rent, before landing the part on Broadway.
