Special Art Installation at Bethany Arts Community
Viewers will walk through the domestic spaces of Bethany discovering various digital tellings of the myth of John and Rose. Over ten films found in refrigerators, under beds, and on ceilings, viewers will explore the inner workings of a "gender cannibal" and be asked to reflect on their own journey with gender.
After each showing John will sit with viewers, share a hot chocolate, and discuss what the piece provoked. John will also lead participants through story circles, focused on some of the techniques she developed to create material for Rose. The underlying premise of this exploration will be "what if you gave your gender a whole room all to itself? What would it look like? smell like? what stories would you tell." John will lead the participants through some interactive material from Rose as well as engaging them in these generative activities. What is the story not shown or hidden in a photo? What clothing, music, entertainment, language most makes you feel seen and loved in your identity? If you told the story of you like a greek myth, what would it be? The installation and accompanying activities are for ages 13 and up.
After touring the installation, LOFT viewers will have a chance to engage directly with the artist and discuss their experience with the installation.
This is FREE for all LOFT attendees, however, space is limited and you must RSVP in advance by either contacting [email protected] or registering on the button below.
