LOFT Mourns Jill Sallie's Passing

The LOFT LGBTQ+ Community Center mourns the passing of Jill Sallie. Jill joined The LOFT as a facilitator in 2019 for the center's LGBTQ+ Grief and Loss Peer Support Group. During her time leading the group, she did so with compassion, empathy, and with an understanding of the complexities that were a part of the grieving process for members of our community.
In March 2020, when the group pivoted to meeting on zoom, Jill's impact reached even more people as the group was utilized by community members both locally and around the country who were grappling with the COVID pandemic. Due to health reasons, Jill had to step away from the group in the Fall of 2022. Her kindness and gentle spirit was comforting to so many during their time of loss and now we celebrate Jill's life.
Funeral services will take place on Monday, April 10th. Viewing services will be from 11am-12pm and the funeral service will be from 12pm-1pm.
Location:
Camelot Funeral Home
174 Stevens Ave

Out At The Movies: JOYLAND

OUT at The Movies: JOYLAND

April 14-FRIDAY | Group gathers at 6:40 PM for 7:00 PM Screening | Jacob Burns Film Center | We encourage everyone to buy tickets in advance, online

Joyland explores the many sides of love and desire in a patriarchal society. Gentle and timid Haider (Ali Junejo) lives with his wife Mumtaz (Rasti Farooq), his father, and his elder brother’s family in Lahore, Pakistan. Following a long spell of unemployment, Haider finally lands a job at a Bollywood-style burlesque, telling his family he is a theater manager, when in actuality he is a backup dancer. This unusual position shakes up the steadfast traditional dynamics of his household, enabling Haider to break out of his shell. As he acclimates to the new job, Haider becomes infatuated with the strong-willed trans woman Biba (Alina Khan) who runs the show; an unforeseen partnership that opens his eyes—and ultimately his worldview—in ways both unexpected and intimate.

Westchester County Dept of Health Presents Award To The LOFT

March 30th, 2023 (Scarsdale Public Library) The LOFT would like to thank The Westchester County Department of Health and County Executive George Latimer for the Special Recognition Award presented to The LOFT for our Outstanding Response to the MPOX Outbreak.  During the Summer of 2022, The LOFT in partnership with the DOH, mobilized a rapid response series of clinics at The LOFT offering vaccines to our high-risk community members.  The LOFT was the first LGBTQ+ Center in the nation to host Mpox vaccine clinics at its center. With this initiative we are able to provide 9 clinics and over 700 inoculations, helping to blunt the spread of the MPOX outbreak.

We are so grateful to be recognized for this award, and most importantly--grateful to the Westchester County Department of Health for partnering with us to empower our community!
